Champions for Quality Education ensures that all Catholic elementary schools are able to deliver the programming necessary for student learning and achievement by providing additional in-school and afterschool enrichment programs.
By partnering with a number of different organizations and initiatives, Champions offers schools STEM, music, art, dance, chess, and literacy programs to a number of schools within the Archdiocese of New York.
Some of our popular programs include:
Alvin Ailey Dance Kids
Through a generous donation and a partnership with Alvin Ailey, we are able to offer residency programs to many students at our Catholic elementary schools. During the afterschool program, students are taught a genre of dance which includes: West African, Hip-Hop, Jazz, and Contemporary selected by the principal during this program.
Codespeak Labs
Codespeak Labs is a coding program that is integrated into the school’s computer classes that enable all students of the school (K-8) to develop skills in computer coding.
Starting as early as Kindergarten, students work with the Codespeak Labs instructor weekly on platforms such as Google’s Blockly, MIT’s Scratch, and Python. In this enrichment program, students learn skills in robotics, web development, and game design. Building this 21st century language early on in our students has opened their minds to future careers in coding and related technological fields.
Page Turners
Page Turners, a program of Champions for Quality Education, brings published and award-winning authors into Archdiocese of New York Catholic elementary schools. While meeting with students, participating authors conduct readings of their personal work, detail their journey into writing, share their sources of inspiration, and walk through their daily practices that nurture creativity. Schools have welcomed best-selling and award-winning authors such as Jerry Craft, Janae Marks, Booki Vivat, Jarrett Lerner, and more.
Read-a-Recipe for Literacy
Read-a-Recipe for Literacy is a nonprofit organization focused on improving student communication skills through exciting activities while providing them with the opportunity to gain a better understanding of healthy living and appreciation of their community.
For the Love of Science
For the Love of Science (FTLOS) is an afterschool program for elementary school-aged girls founded by Trinity High School student, Kylie. She and a group of friends felt passionate about spreading their love of science to young girls by introducing them to women scientists who, throughout history, have never been recognized by their inventions/theories.
Wildlife Conservation Society
With this exciting partnership, a group of students at one Archdiocese of New York elementary school are selected to participate in the Wildlife Conservation Society summer camp at the Bronx Zoo. During the two-week long in-person summer camp, students work with scientists to solve real conservation problems, explore exhibits, and speak with zoo superheroes who help save wildlife near and far.
