Page Turners promotes the literary arts by bringing celebrated authors right into the classroom. Novelists, poets, creative non-fiction writers, illustrators and science writers engage with students through readings, lessons and creative writing workshops. In many instances, an author’s work celebrates his or her own heritage. The setting of each Page Turners class allows the author to demonstrate to all students how writing can enhance their lives.
While meeting with students, participating authors conduct readings of their personal work, detail their journey into writing, share their sources of inspiration, and walk through their daily practices that nurture creativity. The visiting author leaves students with the skills and inspiration necessary to foster a supportive writing community in their own school. Our generous authors have found the experience so rewarding many come back to teach additional classes.
